Partner Announcement What To Do With Your 401K

Partner Announcement What To Do With Your 401K Last year I wrote an article about having a master 401k account. Its based on the idea that youll change jobs (employers) nine times before you retire, and I thought it was quite ingenious So heres the basic idea: You get a job and begin to invest in the 401k program. The company matches a certain amount and if you are lucky there is no vesting period (which means that you own the amount the employer contribute from day one). Two years later you change to a new employer what happens with your 401k? Your new employer will likely encourage you to roll your last 401k over, and keep it all in one place. Theyll probably have different policies, perhaps there is a two year vesting period. The policies and fees will most likely be different than the one before, and if you care then youll get to read through a bunch of legal documents to see how your retirement money will be handled. For the average worker, repeat this seven more times. Sound fun? Not to me. So my article, which is in the JibberJobber library (just login and click on Library, Articles), talks about having a personal master 401k account. The idea is simple, and its all based on taking ownership of your career (in this case, your retirement). Find a service provider that you trust that will help you take your 401k account(s) and roll them all into one master account. This is completely independent of any employer account. Each time you change employers you dont have to worry about rolling the 401k into the new employers outsourced service provider you just roll it into your own master 401k account. I still strongly recommend taking advantage of a company 401k account, especially where the employer matches the contribution!! Dont miss out one a 100% return on investment! But managing all of these accounts blah! What if you could just fill out a simple form and your 401k will be rolled over into a personal master account? Actually, you can. Ive partnered with Rollover Express (an Invested Interests company) and personally went through this process last year. When you go to RolloverExpress.com and fill out the form, youll be contacted by a specialist in rollovers the process is simple, painless and quick. And the customer experience I got was awesome. I wanted to go through the process and work with them for a while before I promoted them, or partnered with them, but now I feel very confident in recommending their services. Now Im no expert in finances, but this seems to be a very smart move in managing your retirement money. If you have any retirement accounts just laying around (from previous employers), go sign up at RolloverExpress and begin the process to create your master 401k account. Make sure you tell them you came from JibberJobber! Ill blog later on some specifics in a process like this, but there is NO COST to you to do this. There are plenty of financial advisors that will charge you to fill out the paperwork and submit it this is a no-cost transaction for you. And it was a no-brainer for me. What are you waiting for? Go sign up now its just a contact us form, and theyll get back with you to get more information. Be sure to let me know how it goes. How to Take Website Photos You Are Proud Of - Classy Career Girl

How to Take Website Photos You Are Proud Of Your brand image is very important. When you are putting together a website, it is important to make sure you spend a lot of time on your website photos. Your photo is how your viewers are going to connect with you and start to know, like and trust you. That profile photo is how they are going to determine if they will do business with you. The first impression is very important when you meet someone in person and also when they happen to land on your website. If you are  ready to take website photos that you are really proud of, heres a handy checklist to help you stand out and be trusted: Step 1: Study magazines Buy magazines and study the backgrounds and poses of the models. Also, study the props the models are using for ideas. Have these images handy during your photo shoot and send them to your photographer before the shoot so he/she knows what type of photos you want for your website. You can also send them examples of other website photos that you like. Step 2: Have a theme I once did a photo shoot with no plan and I was not very happy with the photos. The second time around, I got really clear on exactly what I wanted for my website. And guess whatthe photos turned out exactly how I wanted them to be! Write down the answers to these questions before the shoot: 1) How do you want others to feel when they see your website photos? 2) People can relate to stories. What story do you want to tell with your website photos? 3) What environments will help you create that story? Make sure you send these 3 questions to your photographer before the big day! Step 3: Find the very best lighting If you are taking photos inside, try to find a place with natural light. You don’t need fancy equipment. If you are taking photos outside, do it 2 hours before the sun sets. Step 4: Pick your colors Don’t just wear anything from your closet. It’s now time to make a decision and plan out your color scheme. Pick 3 colors you want your website to have. This will make outfit picking much easier. (Feel free to head to the mall during this step). Step 5: Pre-plan your looks and locations I recommend having three outfits ready to go. What is going to make you feel great and confident? If you feel great, you will take better photos. What are you most comfortable in? If you don’t wear pants normally, don’t wear a pantsuit in the photo shoot. Wear what you love. You also probably want a formal dress shot, and then maybe a more comfortable shot. Whatever matches your style, do it. Step 6: Plan Your Props! Hundreds of photos of just you might be a bit boring. Props make photos fun and give you lots of variety for your shoot. They also allow you to show off your personality more and allow the reader to connect with you more. Here are some ideas of props that I used: -Coffee cup -Candle -Magazines/Books -Journals -Calendars/Post-it notes -Purses/Shoes/Necklaces -Baby toys (for the working mom theme -Flight safety instructions for my dream career launch theme. Remember to add props for your theme! -Flowers -iPads, computers and phones, Balloons -Ice cream cone Step 7: Book Your Appointments Ok, we are women. There’s a lot to do to make us look our best and feel as confident as possible! Here are some appointments you might want to consider: -Hair cut/highlights/color -Hair Blowout -Manicure/pedicure -Fashion Help (some stores like Nordstrom offer this for free!) -Makeup (Remember department stores offer this too!) Hope this helps, let us know how your photos turn out!

5 Famous Productivity Mantras That Will Ruin Your Career - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

5 Famous Productivity Mantras That Will Ruin Your Career - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career For many of us, business and busyness go hand-in-hand. Modern workers are constantly bemoaning the conundrum of having to get ever-more done in ever-less time. In this atmosphere, it is hardly surprising that legions of productivity-boosting hints tips have proliferated. Each latest incarnation promises us a sure-fire route to To-Do List Zero, if we can just learn to work better, stronger, and faster. Improving our productivity is a worthwhile goal. Unfortunately, most productivity-boosting advice isn’t worth the paper it’s written on. Here are five common offenders that are more likely to hinder your career than help it:   “Everything Gets Better with Coffee” Few and far between are the employees who don’t regard their morning cup o’ joe as a sacred workday ritual. But if you’re justifying your ten-a-day habit with the logic that caffeine = productivity, some bad news is heading your way: coffee-drinkers are not any more alert that their decaf peers. The fact is that when you drink coffee regularly, you become so used to the caffeine that you no longer feel the effects of it. And if you drink coffee irregularly, you’re more likely to become anxious than alert. “The Early Bird Catches the Worm” Ask a bunch of CEOs and bloggers the secret to success, and many return the same answer: get up at 5.30am. The logic seems sound enough; the more time you spend awake, the more you can get done. But to get anything done well, you need to be operating off a good night’s sleep. And for most adults, that means 7-9 hours each night. Which puts your bedtime at 8.30pm-10.30pm each night: perfectly possible, but rather detrimental to your social life. Moreover, forcing your body awake before it’s ready is a recipe for feeling sluggish all day, and this problem is compounded if you get up in the dark. “Social Media is a Waste of Time” Few things seem to exemplify the drawbacks of the digital age like our perceived addiction to social media. So bosses block access at work, and lifestyle websites urge us to ‘detox’ from the soul-sucking effects of plugging in. But science has found that social media use actually makes employees more productive. Explanations vary from the need for workers to take brainless but enjoyable breaks in order to stay focused, to the idea that social media often has business purposes, such as facilitating professional networking or providing industry information. “It’s Not About Having Time, It’s About Making Time” John Maynard Keynes was a pretty smart guy. But he was spectacularly wrong in his prediction that modernity and technology would see the working week dramatically reduced and human being enjoying a life a leisure. Instead, our unpaid overtime is through the roof, our lunch breaks have become non-existent, and we’re all checking work emails at midnight. Unfortunately, none of this is making us more productive. More unfortunately still, it actually does the exact opposite. Human beings are not robots, and without rests, breaks, and a decent work-life balance, our work output becomes both drastically reduced and poor in quality. In short: overworking yourself achieves nothing. “Become a Master at Multi-Tasking” Multitasking has long been held up as the key to pulling together all the strands of our increasingly busy lives. But practically every scientist who has studied it comes up with the same conclusion: that multitasking is “neither effective nor efficient”. It turns out that the human brain is not designed to deal with multiple thought processes at once. When it tries to do so, it takes it 40% longer to complete any given task. In fact, our mental faculties are so spectacularly bad at multi-tasking that one study found that our attempts to do so lowers our IQ to the equivalent of an eight-year-old child. Looking stupid in front of your boss? Not the best idea. 5 Steps To Quitting Your Job With Grace - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

5 Steps To Quitting Your Job With Grace - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career You’re over it. You’re ready for new opportunities. You’re ready to quit your job. But hold one a minute. What’s your game plan? How far in advance do you plan on letting your current employer know you’re moving on? How do you plan on telling your coworkers? What’s your approach for wrapping up your current projects? Quitting your job with grace and style can mean the difference between keeping friends, good contacts, and references, and being blacklisted by your current employer. But before you make any announcements, make sure your new gig is solid, as in paperwork signed, job opening closedofficial. If your new job is officially lined up, then it only take five steps to make a graceful exit from any job. Step 1: Alert your boss in person as soon as possible. It might be tempting to put this off, but you will be hurting your coworkers and boss by putting it off for too long. Your boss needs time to find someone to replace you, so the more notice you give on quitting your job, the better. Keep this in mind and you’re sure to make your transition much smoother. If possible, also put your resignation in writing to hand to your boss so you have the documentation of the date. I always recommend scheduling a meeting outside the office for this  discussion, and letting them know in advance you want to talk about your future with the organization so they are not 100% surprised. Step 2: Tell your coworkers. Discuss this with your boss too, as he or she might decide to make the announcement themselves. Either way, have a contingency plan ready to share with your coworkers in the event that no one is hired in your place soon after your departure. This will leave your coworkers feel a bit more at ease about this transition and their part in pulling your weight. Step 3: Volunteer to train the replacement and organize your projects, documents, and other files for other people to use easily. While none of this sounds like fun, it’s the best way to show respect for your employer as you prepare to quit your job. Your boss may not take you up on your training offer, but the gesture will be duly noted. Similarly, clean up your documents and projects to make it easier for someone new to pick them back up. Do you have an organizational system that only you can understand? If so, it’s time to make your materials easy to understand or make a how-to guide. Step 4: Finish strong. This may be the best thing you can do to successfully quit your job with grace. Don’t let yourself “check out” from the job before your last day. It’s important to finish your work in a timely manner and with the same vigor as you did before resigning. Step 5: Stay in touch. Your past employer and coworkers are now added to your professional network, so make sure you stay connected with them. It’s often true that your employer liked you more than you thought, so keeping in touch and updating them on your life and career will be appreciated. Send quick emails to see how he or she is doing every now and againand share your updates with your former supervisor as well. At the end of the day, quitting your job with grace includes considering the feelings of your coworkers and boss, who may be left with a pile of to-do’s because of you. Don’t feel too bad, because it happens a lot, but being cognizant of this will make your transition out much smoother. How do you make a graceful exit from your jobs? Is there ever a case where making a less than polite exit is acceptable? Author: Heather R.
